Retirement: Ensure that members of the Department are physically, mentally and financially prepared to retire.

CAAFA is very serious about you achieving prosperity and preparing for your life after you retire. This all starts way before you retire. CAAFA can help guide you through the important things that will make your retirement more easier.

We can assist helping you with the following areas of importance:

  • Investments - Ohio457B (deferred compensation) & DROPP (Pension rules)

  • Health Care - ways to stay fit, avoiding injury, forms to file and benefits you have.

  • Education - earning a degree or gaining more credentials so you can have other opportunities.

  • Financial Planning

-making the most of your money that your making is important.

-learn to strategize on how to save and make more money (overtime, special events, sick leave reciprocity, uniform allowance, etc.

  • Getting recognized at retirement:

-understand the process of retirement (forms to file, who to inform, where to file)

-Celebration and send off (getting your watch, badge & ID card) and sometime you’ll receive a helmet, a placard and a axe (even cash in a envelope if they liked you).

  • Rewards of the job:

-pay off your debt and acquire more assets.

-plan and schedule dream trips and experiences.

-learn and have an “after life plan”. I know it sounds silly, but learn how to visualize big things into existence. Many firefighter’s die shortly after they retire and never get a chance to spend or enjoy all the money they’ve made. Typically, it’s because the fire department is everything to some individuals (since you’ll spend a third of your life doing it) and they didn’t spend time planning for what to do when it’s over. Don’t give yourself an “Expiration Date”, but give yourself a “Exploration Date”. If done correctly, you should walk away very wealthy and that’s the date when you start your new life and explore new opportunities. You get to choose it, and CAAFA can help you get there.
